My 24-70 2.8 S for the Z7 arrived Thursday at my local store YM Camera in Youngstown Ohio. Nikon hit it out of the park with this one. The focus is unbelievably fast and the images are tack sharp throughout the the zoom range. At F2.8 indoors low light the corners and edges perfect. Outdoors it preforms perfectly. Above: Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 OS Art on D810 at 35mm, f2.8. Above: Nikon 24-70mm f2.8E VR on D850 at 35mm, f2.8. Above: Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 VC on a D850 at 35mm, f2.8. At 35mm focal length both Tamrons beat the Sigma and the Nikon in the DX image-circle while the FX-corner is won by the Nikon. Performance at 50mm: But when compared to the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II or even the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8, the new Nikon 24-120mm f/4 is going to add more “character” to the background, as strong lines and specular highlights tend to be rendered with a slightly harder edge. Lens Mount: Canon EF, Nikon F. Release Date: 2017-06-30. MSRP Price: $1199. Made in: Japan. Infrared Rating: Good. Production Status: In Production. Lens Description: Characterized by apt focusing speed and image stabilization, the Nikon F-mount SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 from Tamron is a revised fast standard zoom covering a versatile wide NIKON Z 7 + 70.0-200.0 mm f/2.8 @ 200 mm, 1/40 sec at f/8, ISO 64 In the end I'd say I'd be more than happy to use the Nikon Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR for (longer focal length) landscape work. It's not quite as composed at the 70-200 in the extreme corners but it definitely holds up very well Nikon D750, 100% crop, 70 mm@f2.8, left Nikkor 24-70G, right Tamron 24-70 G2. G version of Nikon lens slightly outperforms new VR version in central sharpness (except of 24mm in this comparison). The difference is most pronounced at 70mm. Where VR version shines above all 20-70s is edge of frame. Overall, the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E VR handles very well and after using the lens extensively for the past year, I cannot complain about its build quality. Focus Speed and Accuracy When it comes to focus speed, the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E VR does not disappoint – thanks to the latest generation Silent Wave Motor (SWM), the lens focuses very Left to right: Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, 24-70mm f/2.8 .
